38 - Strasburg Wallops Magnolia 40-21 (3-3-38)
Strasburg Tigers Senior Forward Paul "Pete" Haswell led all scoring with a total of 8 points (4 field goals) as the Tigers ran-over the Magnolia Panthers 40-21.
DOVER - The Strasburg Tigers (5-1) pounced on a hapless Magnolia Panther crew in the 1st Sectional Tournament contest, in workman-like fashion 40-21. Much better than that final score indicates, Magnolia put a fast and scrappy quintet on the floor. They were every bit as polished as the Tigers, but the latter's hard-working defense and Reserve power turned the thing into a rout.
Those rampaging Tigers from Strasburg were sluggish at the go, being held 7-7 in the 1st quarter by the Panther boys. But they pushed on to double up on their opponents, 18-9 at halftime and took a 22-15 advantage at the 3rd quarter mark. And when Head Coach Roby turned loose those baby Tigers in the final session it was the end of the season for Magnolia. The losers were out-scored 18-6 during this period and the Strasburg substitutes gathered 14 of the markers.
Strasburg's scoring ace, Pete Haswell won game honors with 8 points, while Junior center Maurice Bayer, Junior center Lloyd "Mule" Haas and Senior guard Charles "Babe" Reiger followed their teammate with 6 points each. Magnolia's guard Corbett hit 6 points, while his teammates, forward Sickafoose, center Casper and guard Vanvoorhis each hit the hoops for 4 points.
