38 - Mineral City Breaks Out In The 2nd Half Sending Port Home 31-19 (2-19-38)









DOVER - The Mineral City Tigers (1-1) (9-19) picked up their 1st win of the tourney by outlasting the Port Washington Purple Riders (0-2) (4-17) 31-19 in the 1st Consolation Tournament on Saturday night.  Until halftime, it was a nip-and-tuck affair for the 2 teams.  Then in the 3rd quarter the Tigers began putting space between them and the Purple Riders.

Mineral City held a 2-point lead at the end of the 1st quarter.  Port Washington then picked up that 2-point lead by the Tigers and notted the score at halftime 11-11.  In the 3rd quarter, Mineral City's 1st-year Head Coach Alvin Wyse helped his team improved their game plan and was leadng by 8 points 23-15 by the end of the quarter.  In the 4th stanza, Mineral City continued the assault by breaking for another 8 points, while Port Washington lagged behind by putting up a mere 4 points.

Leading the charge for Mineral City again was guard Fred Fishley with 10 points.  He had 11 points in his last game.  Teammate substitute forward Will Bailey followed up with another 7 points.  Game honors went to Port Washington's Senior forward Gene Ludwig who poured in 11 points in leading his team.  He ended tournament play with 19 points total.
