38 - Midvale Overpowers Mineral City 44-18 (2-25-38)

DOVER - The Midvale Blue Devils (2-1) (23-12) led by center Bill Stevenson and forward John Hawkins had little trouble in downing the Mineral City Tigers (1-2) (9-20) 44-18 in another  Consolation tussle.  The Blue Devils came to play and led the entire game.

The fast-breaking Blue Devils hurried to an 11 point lead 14-3 in the very first quarter showing Midvale's power.  The Tigers slowed the Blue Devils down somewhat holding them to but 3 more points in the 2nd half, but still failed to find their offense as their own output was but 4 points, while the scoreboard read 17-7 at halftime.  Mineral City doubled their scoring in the 3rd stanza; however, Midvale was pouring in another 16 points and was leading 33-14.  In the last quarter the Blue Devils wrapped up the game by picking up 11 points and the Tigers were held to 4 markers.

Midvale's Stevenson won game honors by scoring 17 points and Hawkins followed up with 11 markers as they topped Mineral City at every turn.  The Tigers' scoring ace, guard Fred Fishley, swished 6 points in a losing cause.  The 1st time he was not in double figures.  He finishes the tournament with 27 total points.
