35 - Sectional Tournament Wrap-up

DOVER - Strasburg Upsets Tuscarawas In Thriller - Bolivar and Malvern Winners.

STRASBURG AVENGED...MALVERN UPSETS DENNISON...BOLIVAR WON EASILY

In brief, those were the net results of the Class B Sectional Basketball Tournament finals on Saturday night at Legion Hall.  The Strasburg Tigers (5-1) and the Bolivar Cardinals (5-1) and the Malvern Green Hornets of Carroll County will play in the District Class B contests at Dennison this week.

Strasburg 28 - Tusky 25
Malvern 39 - Dennison 34
Bolivar 47 - Millersburg 31

For Strasburg, it was the most decisive, most thrilling and most appreciated victory of the entire season.  It was revenge over a powerful, scrapping and championship team.  Revenge over the same Tusky team which won the County Championship just last week after eliminating Strasburg from the championship rounds of the County Class B Tournament with a score of 34-23.  The same team that had tumbled Strasburg from its top perch in the County League a few weeks ago by a score of 17-16.  The Saturday night victory wasn't an easy one.  It took clear-headed, air-tight, alert basketball by Head Coach Paul M. Roby's boys.  The game had the 800 fans at Legion Hall in a frenzy during the last quarter when it looked like anybody's contest.  With the crack of the gun ending the fray, Strasburg followers rushed to the floor in a gigantic demonstation.

Vanquished, Head Coach Charmis Davis' County Champions had to accept ironic fate of tournament play.  This time it means that Strasburg and Bolivar will go on to the District meet, while Tusky...which conquered both those teams here last week...is eliminated.  Equally thrilling, the Dennison-Malvern game was a fitting prologue, to the Strasburg-Tuscarawas fracas.  Dennison led almost the entire way through until the last quarter when Malvern spurted to victory.  The Bolivar-Millersburg contest was anti-climax.  It lacked the thrills of the other games as Bolivar scored at will over the Millersburg cagers.
