34 - Tusky Owns Late 3rd Quarter To Beat Mineral City 39-30 (2-23-35)

Tuscarawas Bronco Senior Forward Calvin Knisely scores game high 16 points.

Tuscarawas Broncos Sophomore Center Lester Veigel follows up with 10 points.

DOVER - Like the Strasburg Tigers, Tuscarawas high school cagers, co-holders with Strasburg and the Bolivar Cardinals of the county Class B League Championship, found things exceedingly difficult for the 1st few periods of their game with the Mineral City Tigers (0-1) (5-13).  The Tuscarawas Broncos (1-0) (4-13) finally won out 39-30.  A flash attack in the last minute or 2 of the 3rd period gave the Broncos a 6-point lead after they had trailed the Cardinals from the beginning.

Taking their cue from the inspired playing of Senior forward Dick Wilson, Mineral City carried the fight to the rugged Broncos from the opening whistle.  Wilson scored 12 points (5 field goals and 2 free throws) for his team and finished 2nd in a scoring duel with Knisely of Tuscarawas who tallied 16 markers (8 field goals), while his teammate Veigel also hit for double figures with 10 points (5 field goals).
