34 - Tournament Update

DOVER - Flashing a rarity of form no other Class B team in Tuscarawas County has been able to master, the Strasburg Tigers ran rough-shod over the little Dundee Bulldogs to win is 6th County Tournament Championship...its 3rd consecutively...at Legion Hall on Saturday night.  With all players taking a scoring part, the Tigers blasted Dundee's hopes at the very outset and piled up a lopsided 60-19 score, before a disappointingly small crowd that gathered at the Hall to witness the finals in the 12th Annual County meeting.  As a result of their successfully defending the Championship they have held under an intermittent lease since the 1st tournament back in 1923, the Tigers will be one of the 3 county system schools entered in the Sectional Tournament at Legion Hall on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Others will be Dundee, the runner-up and the Mineral City Tigers winner of the Consolation Tournament over the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates in Saturday night's finals.

Mineral City topped the Pirates 17-16 to give the tournament its 2nd big upset.  Sugarcreek-Shanesville figured in both of them...lost in both of them.  After being turned out of the regular tournament by the Midvale Blue Devils 33-24 in an early round the Pirates fought their way to the Consolation finals, defeating Midvale with ease in a semi-final game 32-14.  Mineral City entered the Consolation finals by defeating the Stone Creek Panthers 22-20 Saturday afternoon.

Drawings for the Sectional Class B Tournament here this week will be held at Legion Hall tonight at 7PM.  Teams from Tuscarawas, Holmes, Carroll, Coshocton, Harrison and Jefferson counties will participate.
