34 - Tournament Update

DOVER - The compliment of a packed house was returned with a packed evening of thrills by county Class B high school basketball players as they swung into line for their march toward tournament honors at Legion Hall last night.

Eight teams participated and at the close of the program 4 of them were counter-marching in a consolaton race the 1st ever attached to a local county tourney.  In the 4 games the Midvale Blue Devils nosed out the Bolivar Cardinals 28-27, the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates beat the Gnadenhutten Indians by a score of 42-32, the Port Washington Purple Riders slamed the New Cumberland Trojans 33-18 and the Strasburg Tigers defeated the Tuscarawas Broncos 22-13.  There were no upsets.  As a result, the winning teams advance to the 2nd round of the regular tournament and the losers step into the Consolation Tournament games today and tonight.

It was announced before the regular season that this year (1933-34) the high school player's age limit was dropped from 20 to 19.
