34 - Sugarcreek-Shanesville Hammers Gnaden 42-32 (2-16-34)
DOVER - Although lacking some of the snap their season record shows them to possess, the basketballing Pirates of Sugarcreek-Shanesville (1-0) (14-8) had little trouble in turning the Gnadenhutten Indians (0-1) (13-10) down the Consolation road of the county tournament at Legion Hall last night. The score was 42-32. Paced by Junior Prince Harmon and Senior Harold "Ted" Arnold, 2 speedy forwards, the Pirates took an 11-2 lead in the opening period and jumped to a 23-12 advantage in the 2nd quarter. They maintained their pace in the 3rd to lead 37-18, but slumped in the final.
Harmon accounted for 13 points with 5 field goals and 3 free throws. Arnold had 10 points with 5 buckets and Senior Sylvester Miller, Pirate center, had 9 points with 4 baskets and a foul shot. Harold Kohl was top scorer for the Indians with 10 points collected with 5 field goals.
