34 - Strasburg Tigers Win 12th Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament (2-24-34)









The Strasburg Tigers are bosses of Tuscarawas County's Class B Basketball for 6 years.  They won the League Title 5 consecutive times, built up a record of 39 consecutive vicories and Saturday night won there 3rd consecutive tournament championship.  Team Photo:  Head Coach Paul M. A closeup photo of Senior forward John "Johnny" Studer, Tiger Captain, who leads the Class B League in scoring.  He has become the 1st player to accumulate 1,000 career points.  He now stands at 1,015 points thus far in his 4 years of play.





A closeup of Head Coach Paul M. Roby who has won the county tournament championship every one of the 4 years he has been at Strasburg.  Prior to that he coached at Midvale and was runner-up twice with teams he turned out there.


DOVER - The Dundee Bulldogs (2-1) (9-12) went almost 2 full periods before it was able to score from action against the Strasburg Tigers (4-0) (29-5) in the championship game at Legion Hall on Saturday night.  The Tigers blew out the Bulldogs with a 15-2 lead in the opening period and pushed it to 25-5 by halftime.  J. Jones, Dundee center, slipped under the basket to score a sucker shot just before the end of the 2nd quarter to give his team its only action shot of the half.

With the proverbial machine-like precision the Tiger crew added to their count in the 3rd period and pushed the count to 38-7 before Head Coach Roby began pulling his starting lineup and sending the 2nd stringers into the game.  The score at the end of the 3rd period was 49-11.  Scoring honors of the game went to Junior forward Bill "Doddle" Haas of Strasburg who potted 5 field baskets and 2 free throws for 12 points.  Senior forward John "Johnny" Studer, the League's high scorer, marked 3 buckets and 4 foul shots for a total of 10 points.  He gave half a dozen easy buckets to teammates.  Dundee's center, Russell. Jones, was high for his team with 6 points gathered on 3 field goals.  All players on the floor made the scorebook.

NOTE:  By scoring 10 points in the Class B Tournament final Saturday night, John Studer, Strasburg scoring ace, brought his season's total to 245 points.  Last year Studer rolled up a total of 338 points.
