39 - Frank Baumholtz (The Midvale Marvel)
ATHENS - One of the brightest Sopohomore stars in Ohio cage circles is little Frank Baumholtz, former Midvale Blue Devils High School cager, whose sensational scoring sprees as a member of Ohio University's Sophomore Wonder Team have been the talk of cage critics throughout the midwest.
Last night at Marietta Baumholtz hit the hoops with 10 points to bring his record for 13 games to 209 points and with 7 contests left, the former Tuscarawas County star is expected by cage experts to go over the 300 mark as he averages over 16 points a game. In the Buckeye Conference race Frank has a wide lead over the field and may break Beanie Berens' scoring record.
Frank has been the sparkplug of a remarkable Ohio University Bobcat Team which has taken its place with the great hoop teams of the country with its new "streamlined" offense which is the fastest and most novel thing in cage circles today. The Bobcats, with Frank leading the way have averaged close to 50 points per game and at present are leading the Buckeye Conference race with a perfect record.
Although Frank has been a big scoring gun, he has the respect of his teammates and opponents as a perfect team man. Time and again this season he has had an open shot, but has passed the ball to a teammate who was a bit closer to the hoop. "Frankie" is a great ball player, says Head Coach Bill Truatwein "and he'll be one of the best in the country before he's through."
