DOVER - For basketball, the Strasburg Tigers (1-0) (43-9) and the Bolivar Cardinals (0-1) (21-17), in the 2nd game last night, easily topped the show and the Champion Tigers barely came through to take the nod from the Cardinals after a hard-fought contest 29-24. Strasburg led 7-3 at the 1st period of play, 13-7 at the half and 19-16 at the end of the 3rd stanza. Their lead was always in danger as the speedy Red Birds threatened at every turn.
Bolivar was ahead once early in the 3rd stanza by a 16-14 count, but Strasburg rallied to take the lead at the quarter's end. Again as the final period started the Cardinals spurted, but the Burgers got "hot" and stemmed the rush. The Cardinals couldn't seem to click regularly, but even so they outscored the Tigers from the field 11-10. Strasburg; however, dumped in 9 of 15 free throws, while Bolivar counted only 2 of its 8 attempts. The Red Birds were assessed 12 personal fouls and Strasburg only 7. Senior center Lloyd "Mule" Haas had been ejected in the final period.
Senior guard Bob Dreher of Strasburg led the scoring for both teams with a total of 9 points, while Senior forward Justin Huth was high for Bolivar with 8 markers.
