DOVER - Teams in the county's Class B Basketball Tournament reached the parting of the ways with 6 games Saturday, some going home, completely eliminated, others heading on along the trails that lead to tournament honors and qualification for the Section Tournament meeting on March 3-4.  A slender house of 900 were in Memorial Hall Saturday afternoon and evening as the Strasburg Tigers, Dundee Bulldogs and Midvale Blue Devils made their way to the semi-finals where the Tuscarawas Broncos awaited them for Friday night's games.  Three hundred attended the afternoon session and 600 in the evening.

Strasburg turned back a hard-fighting Gnadenhutten Indians team 26-19, the Dundee Bulldogs downed the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates 27-25 and the Midvale Blue Devils coasted over the Baltic Eagles 54-32.  Teams defeated in the regular tournament headed for the Consolation Division where the Stone Creek Golden Panthers swamped the Port Washington Purple Riders 41-20, Sugarcreek-Shanesville ousted Baltic 35-23 and the Bolivar Cardinals trounced the Mineral City Tigers 34-20.  For Port, Baltic and Mineral City the defeats meant the end of the tournament and the end of their scholastic cage season.

Victorious teams return to the Hall next Friday and Saturday to continuous play and name a Tournament Champion which with the runner-up and the winner of the Consolation fight will be qualified to enter the Sectional Tournament which brings together all top Class B teams in Tuscasrawas, Carroll and Holmes counties.  Two of the teams will be qualified in the Sectional for the District Tournament at Dennison.

In Saturday night's last game in the Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament, guards Junior Jones with 10 points (5 field goals) and Don Hershberger with 9 points (3 field goals and 3 free throws) led the way for the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (2-1) (30-16) as they sent the Baltic Eagles (0-2) (14-21) home 35-23.  The Pirates led the entire route after the 1st period which Baltic led 7-6.  The Pirates then took the lead and ended the half 12-9.  The Creekers then extended their lead in the 3rd quarter to 22-15 looking forward to the 4th stanza.  In the final quarter, the Eagles managed 8 more points, but Sugarcreek-Shanesville continued their assault hitting the hoops for another 13 markers.
