42 - Tusky Downs Holmesville 39-31 (3-6-42)

DOVER - A big team from Holmesville which kept good control of the bankboards threw a scare into Head Coach Charmis Davis' Tuscarawas Broncos (4-1) (12-6)  before the Tusky cagers finally edged away in the last half.  Tusky led by only 7-5 at the 1st period and in the 2nd quarter the Holmesville Golden Bears (17-3) knotted the count and went ahead to lead at 3 different stages before the Broncos took a 23-20 lead at intermission.  The score was tied 4 times in the period.

The 3rd quarter saw Tuscarawas score 7 points, while the Golden Bears were making only 2 field goals and the Broncos had a 30-24 lead at the 3rd period.  Holmesville's zone defense was drawn out enough in the final to give Tusky room to work its advantage to 8 points before the final gun.

Seniors forward Charles Myers led Tuscarawas with 7 field goals and 3 free throws for 17 points, while  center Angelo Cerqui, who played a sparkling game against a bigger opponent, made 11 markers.  Sophomore Jim Veigel, a substitute forward, came through with 6.  Carpenter, ace Golden Bear center, threatened tokill the Broncos tourney hopes by dumping in 13 points the 1st half, but Cerqui held him to one point in the final 2 quarters.  Cerqui scored 10 points in the 1st half.

Tusky, assessed 12 personals, made 9 of 17 free throws, while Holmesville, assessed 13 and losing Kiser in the final period, made 7 of 15.
