42 - Bolivar Takes The Measure of Dundee 31-27 (2-27-42)

Bolivar Cardinals Junior Forward Warren Klink claimed game honors in scoring 15 points and leading the Cardinals to victory over the Dundee Bulldogs 31-27 and putting the team into the Tournament Consolation Championship game tonight.  The Junior now has 58 points in tournament play and is averaging 14.5 points a game.

DOVER - It's Gnaden and Tuscarawas for the Championship and Bolivar and Strasburg for the Consolation title at Memorial Hall tonight when the Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament comes to an end.  The night's session saw 2 games played and a crowd of only 355 paid customers present for a hot and exciting fight in which the Strasburg Tigers eliminated a driving Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirate team 39-38, while Bolivar put the end on a listless Dundee Cardinal team 31-27.

The Cardinals, upset by the Tuscarawas Broncos in their opening game of the tourney, are expected to defeat Strasburg for the Consolation title, but the Tigers are not completely without a chance.  Tournament Manager Harold Everett said he expected a packed house for the title games and announced that doors will be opened at 6:30PM.  Trophies will be presented at the half of the final contest.

The Bolivar Cardinals (3-1) (30-23) and Dundee Bulldogs (1-2) (16-27) game was not nearly so interesting; although, the Bulldogs snapped out of their lethargy in the 2nd period to take a commanding 15-10 lead, but slumped again in the 3rd.  Bolivar led 8-4 at the 1st period, but was held to a single field goal in the 2nd quarter after losing center Russ Ross on personal fouls.  The Cardinals came out in the 3rd quarter with a 15-point splurge to lead 25-19.  They led 29-19 once in the final period before Dundee ran up its count in the final few minutes.

Junior Warren Klink, star Cardinal forward, sparked the Bolivar attack with 15 points, while forward Calvin Jones got 7.  Forward Milton Fruchey and center Paul Jones were high for Dundee with 6 points each.

The game was rough, Bolivar taking 15 personals and losing center Class and Jones, while Dundee took 19, losing Fruchey and guard Junior "Buck" Machan in the final quarter.  The Cardinals made only 7 of 16 free throws, missing 7 straight in the final period, while the Bulldogs dropped in 9 of 15.

Referees Earl Schreiber of Canton and John Gaborof Alliance officiated both games.
