42 - Gnaden Wears-Down Midvale 43-22 (2-20-42)
Gnadenhutten Indians 1942 Basketball Team. FRONT: Ken Kolh - Bill Lockette - Ralph Long - John Metzger - Bill Schreiner and Don Miller. BACK: Rallph Johnson (Faculty Manager) - Bill Drumm (Manager) - Charles Miller (Manager) - Elmer Morrison - Al Galbraith - Bob Kopp - Glen Montague - Dean Kopp (Manager) and Head Coach Ralph Gartrell.
DOVER - The Gnadenhutten Indians (1-0) (28-23) (21-1) are red-hot favorites to win the tourney after their initial showing last night. They seem to have everything, a lightning-fast passing attack and a team of sharpshooters who have few turnovers and who seldom foul.
The Midvale Blue Devils (0-1) (33-15) were leading once during the contest 3-2 in the 1st period, but after that; although, still desperately trying, the Blue Devils fell behind 8-5 at the end of the 1st period and 20-15 at the half before the Indians turned on the steam in the 3rd quarter and iced the contest with a 35-18 lead.
Senior John Metzger, star Gnaden center who left the game a couple of times because of a stomach ailment, led the Indians with 13 points (5 field goals and 3 free throws), while Senior forward Don Miller followed up with 11 markers (5 field goals and a free throw). Senior forward Bill Schreiner collected 7 points, Junior guards Ken Kohl and Bill Lockett 6 points each. Senior forward Roger Briggs was high scorer for Midvale with 7 markers.
Gnadenhutten will meet the Dundee Bulldogs at 8PM Thursday in a semi-final contest.
