42 - Sugarcreek-Shanesville Blows-Out Port In The 4th For 1st Tournament Win 41-19 (2-21-42)
DOVER - In the 2nd Consolation game of the tournament, it took a 4th quarter blow-out to tame the pesky Riders as the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (1-1) (33-22) downed the Port Washington Purple Riders (0-2) (6-25) 41-19.
The Purple Riders were down 2 points in the 1st quarter as the Pirates took charge leading 7-5. Sugarcreek-Shanesville streached their lead to 7 points as the 2nd quarter closed leading 17-10. The Pirates game plan faultered in the 3rd period picking up only 4 points, but the Purple Riders couldn't capitalize due to their scoring only 5 points of their own...Sugarcreek-Shanesville 21-15. In the last stanza, the Pirates owned the court scoring 20 points. Everything Sugarcreek-Shanesville put up dropped through the hoops and sent Port Washington home for good as they tallied only 4 more points.
Sophomore forward Warren Craigo led the Pirate scoring with 12 points on 6 field goals. Teammate forward Bill Neff followed up with another 8 points. Port Washington was lead by Senior forward Roy Steinbach with 7 markers.
