42 - Strasburg Stares-Down Stone Creek 27-20 (2-20-42)

ATHLETES OF 33 YEARS AGO.  Believe it or not, State Rep. P.J. Dunn of Strasburg was an athlete in his day...33 years ago.  Above is a picture of a Champion Running Team at Strasburg in 1909.  They are:  Mr. Dunn - "Funny" Summers (killed in the 1st World War) - Roscoe Spidell (now publisher of the Strasburg Record) - Arthur Kanagy and a Mr. Wagner, whose first name cannot now be recalled by Mr. Dunn, who owns the photograph from which the above picture was taken.

DOVER - The Stone Creek Golden Panthers played without the services of forward Bill Ridenour, whom official scorers credited with 24 points Thursday night, because the star was confined to his home with the measles.  Ridenour whose illness was discovered Friday morning, will probably be able to play next week provided the Golden Panthers eke out a win over the Midvale Blue Devils tonight.

The Strasburg Tigers (1-0) (52-12), considered an even match for the Stone Creek Golden Panthers (1-1) (8-18), had a comparatively easy time winning last night, but the game was not without its unusual features.  The Tigers led 12-8 at the 1st period, but scored only one field goal during the 2nd as the Golden Panthers pared the margin to 14-12 at halftime.  Stone Creek went scoreless from the field in the 3rd period, while Strasburg dropped in 9 points to take a 23-13 lead at the quarter and iced the game.

Junior center Carl Yackey led the Strasburg scoring with 9 points, while Glen Stille, a Sophomore forward, was next with 7 markers.  Forward Ralph Kilchenmann was high for Stone Creek with 10 points and game honors.  Strasburg will play the winner of the Bolivar Cardinals-Tuscarawas Broncos game Thursday at 6PM in a semi-final game.
