DENNISON - The Gnadenhutten Indians (6-0) (26-1), coached by 1st-year Head Coach Ralph "Blondie" Gartrell, battled the Dresden Jayhawks on even terms throughout a red hot shooting exhibition and then beat them under the wire.  Gartrell's Indians and the Jayhawks played a close game throughout, but the lead changed hands 7 times and the score was tied 8 times before the Warriers reached the final gun with a 2-point margin.

The 2 teams ended the 1st period all even at 10 points, but in the 2nd, after Gnaden had commanded a 16-12 edge, Dresden gained the front and led 22-18 at intermission.  Early in the 3rd period Dresden led 25-20, the best advantage either team could build throughout the game.  The 3rd quarter ended with the Reds trailing 31-30.

And then, in quick fashion, the victors rushed to a 36-31 advantage before Dresden again hit the hoop and when they did they trimmed it to 36-34, but the Indians retained the lead and with free throws by Seniors forward Bill Schreiner and center John Metzger stretched it to 38-34 and finally 40-34 when Metzger scored a basket on a follow shot under the hoop.  Forward Martin of the Jayhawks, scored a follow up shot with only a minute left and with the clock reading 8 seconds to go, while Dresden's Fulks tossed a short one off a fast break to end the scoring.

The basket boosted Fulks' total to 18 points and gave him scoring honors.  Coach Gartrell's team was led by Miller, who had 13 points and 6 of the 7 boys in his lineup tallied.  Ken Kohl had 10 points and Metzger 9.
