37 - Strasburg Gets By St. Joseph 28-19 (3-5-37)

Rambler cagers of Dover St. Joseph shown above, played their 1st tournament game at Legion Hall when they met the Strasburg Tigers.  During the regular season the Ramblers won 10 games and lost 7 scoring 443 points to their opponents' 375.  Among victims of Dover St. Joseph's attack were Uhrichsville, Canton Lehman, Dover Reserves and Massillon.  Members of the squad are:  Front Row - Vince Hartz, Ralph Lab, James Bambeck, Kenneth Mahollm, and Leo Burns.  Back Row - Manager Robert Tollotti, Head Coach Robert Hadden, Carl Endres, Thomas Craig, Albert Wiegand, Robert Hare, Bill Young and Assistant Coach Gerald Young.

Strasburg Tigers Senior Center Ramon Renner scored 11 points (4 field goals and 3 free throws) in gaining game honors as he led the Tigers to a 28-19 victory over the Dover St. Joseph Ramblers.

DOVER - The Midvale Blue Devils'  victory qualifies it, along with the Strasburg Tigers, Tuscarawas Broncos and Dennison Railroaders, for the Sectional finals tonight when the 2 teams makiing the Dennison trip will be named.  The small crowd of 408 cash customers, just 90 less than the opening night, held tight to their seats to see the wavering Tigers put forth all their strength to finally down the battling Ramblers.

Paul "Pete" Haswell dropped in 2 field goals early in the opening period and the Strasburg Tigers (5-0)were away to a lead, but it was short-lived with the Ramblers knotting the count 4-4 at the end of the period on field goals by forward Carl Endres and guard Vince Hartz.  Playing slow ball and unable to crack the Dover St. Joseph defense with any regularity, Strasburg ran its count up to 11 on buckets by Freshman forward Garver Wallick, Haswell and Junior guard Bob Deibel and a free throw by Renner, while the Ramblers missed many easy shots and added only 3 points on a bucket by center Jim Bambeck and a foul shot by Lab, making the score 11-7 at the half.  The 3rd quarter saw the Ramblers hold the Tigers in check by matchig them point for point, Strasburg taking an 18-14 lead at the end of the quarter.  Early in the 4th period Dover St. Joseph held even with the Tigers, but Strasburg started edging away with Renner finally coming through with 6 points to put the game on ice.

Renner was Strasburg's main threat, scoring 11 points, but it took him 3 periods to wear down Bambeck, Rambler center, who played a great game.  Haswell and Wallick each made 7 points (both with 3 field goals and 1 free throw) for Strasburg, while Bambeck's 6 markers (2 field goals and 2 free throws) was high for the Ramblers.

Jimmy Morgan of New Philadelphia and Bub Miller of Beach City refereed.
