DOVER - The Mineral City Tigers (1-1) (8-17) downed the Dundee Bulldogs 21-16 in the 2nd Consolation game of the tournament. It was a hard fought game by both teams, but the Tigers managed to hold on for the 5 point victory.
In the 1st quarter, play was slowed to a crawl and the Bulldogs were down by only one point 2-1. Action was picked up in the 2nd quarter and again Dundee was behind by a point 12-11. Mineral City picked up some breathing room in the 3rd quarter when the Cardinals' defense kicked in and were now leading by 6, 17-11, as the Bulldogs could not find the hoop. Dundee out-scored Mineral City in the 4th stanza 5-4, but it was too late by then and took to the showers as their season ended.
Center Lester Martin and guard Dean Ackerman led the Tiger Attack with 5 points each (both with 2 field goals and a free throw). Forward Merle Beechey, center Denver Smith and guard Dick Machan each scored 4 points for the Bulldogs (1 field goal and 2 free throws each). Both teams played a well balanced attack as well as fine defenses.
