37 - Bolivar Explodes On Stone Creek 61-23 (2-20-37)

DOVER - The Bolivar Cardinals (2-0) (20-12) had an easy time adding the Stone Creek Panthers (1-1) (4-8) to their list of victims, taking a 61-23 victory which put them in the semi-finals.  The Cardinal total of 61 points ties the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates for high game in a tournament since the tourney started in 1923.  In fact, the Pirates hit that total twice, once in 1927 and another time in 1933.

The Panthers put up a battle in the 1st quarter, but Bolivar took a 14-11 nod and then turned on the rocket engines from that point on and led 34-13 by halftime.  The Cardinals were leading 49-18 at the end of the 3rd stanza.

Bolivar's center Ward Kreis led the on-slaught with a game high of 22 points (10 field goals and 2 free throws and was the only team member to hit double figures.  Jack Ross, the regular Cardinal center, was benched to give an injured ankle a rest.  First year Head Coach Harold Peterson moved guard Ward Kreis to center for this game.  The Panthers were led by forward Ed Lorenz with 9 points (4 field goals and a free throw).
