37 - Baumholtz-Midvale Too Much For Hopewell 46-29 (3-12-37)

Midvale Blue Devils Senior Forward Frank Baumholtz (The Midvale Marvel) poured in 26 points (11 field goals and 4 free throws) in gaining game honors and leading his team to a 46-29 triumph over the Hopewell Comets.

DENNISON - It took Frank Baumholtz, Midvale's flashy forward, just one quarter to get started in the Blue Devils' game with Hopewell, New Concord Tournament winner, but after he started, Hopewell dropped out of the picture and the Midvale Blue Devils (7-1) coasted through to a 46-29 win.

The Blue Devils led at the 1st quarter 12-8 after Baumholtz, forward John Hawkins and guard Bill Stevenson each dropped in 4 points.  Racing up and down the floor, stealing the ball from the guards, outdribbling the Comets' fastest men and dumping the ball through with flawless precision, Midvale's star iced the game for his team in the 2nd period.  His 7 field goals and a free throw added 15 points to the Blue Devils' total to put Hopewell far behind 27-19, at the half.  Baumholtz's show by far the best turned in either Class A or B during the evening, continued for a 3 bucket stretch in the 3rd period which found Midvale ahead 39-22.  He scored only 1 point in the final period to bring his total to 26.

Forward Harkness scored 10 points for Hopewell.  Hawkins, who for the last several games has turned in sweet performances for Midvale, couldn't hit regularly, but made 8 points during the game.  The 26 points scored last night gives Baumholtz a total of 78 in his last 3 tournament games.  He scored 27 against Dennison in the Sectional Tournament and 25 against the Millersburg Knights.  Head Coach M.R. Helwick gave his subs a short workout in the final stages of the game.

NOTE:  Frank Baumholtz, star Midvale basketball forward, marked up what is believed an all-time tournament record last night when he poured in 10 straight shots without a single miss.  He scored 26 points for Midvale in its game with Hopewell and stole the tournament show, missed his 1st shot at the basket.  He made the second.  Then he missed 14 straight before he found the hoop in the 2nd quarter.  And then he scored 7 straight before the half ended.  In the 2nd half he continued and hit 3 more before the string was broken.
