44 - Sugarcreek-Shanesville Slams Mineral City 77-24 (2-18-44)

DOVER - Before a paid crowd of 874, which topped last year's second session crowd of 846, the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (1-0) (36-24) (22-0) put on another sparkling performance in rolling up the meeting's biggest score.  The Pirates led the Mineral City Tigers (0-1) (9-29), 18-7, 39-9 and 62-15 at the period ends and even the injection of a full string of Reserves in the final minute of the 3rd period couldn't slacken the scoring pace of the Bucs.

Guard Ernie Raber of the Pirates set the scoring pace with 16 points, while 9 of the 10 Bucs in the game hit the hoop.  Guard Junior Miller, one of the replacements, tallied 10 markers.  Center Jim Johnson was the bright light for Mineral City, clicking for 12 points.

The 77 points by Sugarcreek-Shanesville set a tournament record for team points in a single game by...Sugarcreek-Shanesville who beat the Tuscarawas Broncos 61-7 in 1927.  The Bolivar Cardinals also held the record when they dropped in 61 points in 1937 against the Stone Creek Golden Panthers, 61-23.
