DOVER - The Baltic Eagles (2-2) (20-30) had the inability to pierce the stout zone defense of 1st-Year Head Coach Travis White's Midvale Blue Devils (3-1) (36-18) sent the Eagles out of the competition with a 28-23 victory. With a height advantage at all positions, but one, the Blue Devils kept Baltic out in front and shut off the passes into Junior center Max Regula, the Eagle's scoring ace and one of the outstanding players of the tournament. Despite the fact that they were held outside, Baltic held their own throughout most of the game.
Midvale led 7-6 in the 1st quarter, but fell behind 11-9 in a terribly slow 2nd quarter. The Devils pulled ahead in the 3rd stanza when they outscored the Eagles 7 to 1. Regula left his place under the basket in the 4th quarter and started pitching from the zone lines. He tossed in 5 field goals during the period, but Midvale's Junior center Gene Hawkins nullified his stalward work by throwing in 4 and the Blue Devils grabbed off a 12-11 edge in the final period's scoring.
Regula; however, emerged with scoring honors with his 13 points shading the 12 counted by Hawkins. The Baltic star was banished on personal fouls with 35 seconds of playing time remaining. Hawkins had been on the bench through the 3rd period with 3 personal fouls. Regula accounted for his points with 6 field goals and a free throw and Hawkins had 5 field goals and 2 free tosses.
Junior forward Sam Booth backed up Hawkins with 7 points for Midvale, while Baltic's guards Junior Gene Schlarb and Senior Floyd Eiler collected another 4 points each.
