47 - Strasburg Sends Port To Consolation 57-32 (2-18-47)

DOVER - The Strasburg Tigers (3-0) (23-1) (68-17) trounced the Port Washington Purple Riders (2-1) (11-7) (11-33) 57-32 at Memorial Hall on Thursday, with 6-5 Junior center Clarance Yackey of the Tigers playing outstanding basketball as he harvested 25 points on 10 field goals and 5 free throws.  Earlier in the season, Strasburg easily handled the Purple Riders with a 60-28 rout.

In the very 1st quarter, Strasburg's offense and defensive teams were in top form ending the period at 13-2. The 2nd period looked pretty much the same with the Tigers grabbing another 12 points, while holding the Purple Riders to just 4 points by intermission...Strasburg 25-6.  Both teams played even-steven in the 3rd stanza, but the Tigers had more-or-less iced the game by then.  The Strasburg Reserve team was not much better for Port as even they outscored the Purple Riders 17 to 12.  The Port Washington team was without a single Senior on their roster...but the Tigers only had one.

Yackey tallied 9 points in the 2nd period when Strasburg amassed a 22-3 lead before Sophomore guard Dick Corbett's Long set shot gave Port its 1st field goal.  That surge was enough to spell defeat for the Riders.  The Tigers lost both Junior forward Roland Malcuit and Junior guard Tom Haswell on personals in the 4th stanza, but their departure gave Port no hope.

Senior guard Marvin Jeffers contributed 10 points to the Tiger triumph, which saw Yackey play a sparkling game around the backboards.  Corbett Junior guard Jack Davies paced the Purple Riders with 10 points each.  Strasburg missed only 4 of 15 free throws, while Port Washington connected on 10 of 28.
