43 - Sugarcreek-Shanesville Rocks Tuscarawas 58-22 (2-20-43)

DOVER - The Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (1-0) (35-23) (14-2) found easy picking in their contest with the Tuscarawas Broncos (0-1) (18-25) who entered the tournament without the services of 5 Varsity regulars who were suspended by 15-Year Head Coach Charmis Davis 10 days ago for training rule violations.

The Buccaneers scored 4 of their 1st five shots at the hoop and went on to lay down a withering barrage which left the Broncos helpless and held them to a single free throw, while the victors were amassing a 14-1 advantage in the opening 1st quarter round.  The losers battled back valiently to score evenly with their foes in the 2nd period as the half ended 23-19, but the Pirates had things their own way in the last half and led 39-15 at intermission.

Ten-Year Head Coach Earl Sundheimer's replacements were as effective as the Varsity, but scoring honors went to center Junior Trachsel, Sophomre forward Bill Neff and guard Bill Mast who contributed 35 of the team's points.

Neff and Trachsel tied for game honors with 12 points each, while Mast followed up with 11 markers for Sugarcreek-Shanesville.  Sophomore forward Dick Bonvechio led the Bronco scoring with 8 points.  Junior guard John Donahue of Tuscarawas was ejected on personal fouls in the middle of the last stanza.
