Ten-Year Former Strasburg High School Head Coach Paul M. Roby
DOVER - Paul M. Roby, a product of New Philadelphia High School and Otterbein College, who became knows as "The Maker of Champions" during his 10-Year tenure as athletic coach at Strasburg High School, is still tops in his field.
Roby's current Twinsburg High School cage team has completed a 16-game schedule without a defeat and is now in the semi-finals round of the Summit County Class B Cage Tournament at Barberton after having eliminated Hudson High School 34-23 and Macedonia High School 46-9 in the opening rounds. The Robymen made a "grand slam" in athletics for the year as Twinsburg's 6-man grid team completed a 6-game schedule without a defeat and claimed the State Title when their offer to meet other unconquered 6-man teams was turned down.
Roby visited Tuscarawas County yesterday with his mother, Mrs. Martha E. Roby, 78, widow of U.M. Roby, who is selling her home in New Philadelphia and will move to Twinsburg with her son and his family. While at Strasburg, Coach Roby's teams won 5 County Tournament Championships, 2 County Consolation Division Championships and won District Titles in 1933 and 1938. He went to Strasburg in 1930 and resigned in 1939 to go to Twinsburg. His record in the Tuscarawas County League has never been equaled.
