41 - Midvale Tops Gnaden 37-21 (2-27-41)









Midvale Blue Devils Guard Jerry Young scored 15 points and gathered game honors leading the Blue Devils to a 37-21 triumph over the Gnadenhutten Indians.  Young has a total of 19 points in tournament play and is averaing 7.5 points per game.


DOVER - First-year Head Coach Pete Wolfe's Midvale Blue Devils (2-0) (32-14), favorite of the tournament and apparently getting better with every performance, were "on" again last night, brushing aside the Gnadenhutten Indians (1-1) (25-23) challenge after bogging down in the 3rd period.  The victory was the 2nd over Gnaden this year for Midvale, the Blue Devils edging the Indians 39-36 on February 17th and losing to them 46-24 on January 14th...the wide range in the scores indicating Midvale's improvement.

In the 1st quarter Midvale was ahead 14-6 and by halftime was still in front 19-13 by the end of the 3rd quarter, the Blue Devils had a 13-point lead 31-18.  In the final stanza, Gnaden went down to defeat accumulating only 3 more points.

The defeat of the Strasburg Tigers and Gnadenhutten completes the elimination of the 5 seeded teams from the Championship Division.  TheTuscarawas Broncos and the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates were eliminated entirely, while the Bolivar Cardinals, the League Champions, still remains in the Consolation Division.
