49 - Sugarcreek-Shanesville Rolls Over Tuscarawas 82-52 (2-19-49)

DENNISON - Mineral City's Tigers and Sugarcreek-Shanesville's Pirates held the spotlight today in the Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament as the 2 teams marked time for their Wednesday night meeting in the semi-final round at the Dennison Gymnasium.  Head Coach Bill Ortt's Pirates continued to show power and scoring ability by running up the largest score of the meet Saturday night in swamping the Tuscarawas Brouncos 82-52.

Sharing the spotlight; however, with the Bucs, was a flock of Bolivar Cardinals, 45-43 victors over the Strasburg Tigers, defending champions, in Saturday night's feature game.  The Stone Creek Golden Panthers continued on in the Consolation Division bracket by edging the Port Washington Purple Riders 56-45 in another 4th round battle Saturday.

Scoring as they pleased against an ineffective Tuscarawas defense, the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (2-0) (17-4) (50-29) established themselves as the best marksman in the tournament by trouning the Tuscarawas Broncos (0-1) (8-11) (32-32).

The Pirates crossed-swords and ran-up a 10 point lead in the 1st quarter...17-7.  The 2nd period mirror the 1st quarter with the scoreboard reading 35-14 as a 21 point margin was pocketed by intermission.  At the end of the 3rd period, the contest was locked up by the ship captain at 57-32.  The Reserves were on the court for both teams with no let up by Sugarcreek-Shanesville as they poured in 25 points to end the 4th canto.

Junior guard Glen Zimmerman hit a tournament high of 25 points, while teammate Buccaneers Sophomore Ike Hochstetler and Senior forward Clayton Deetz hit the hoops for 24 and 14 markers, respectively.  Senior forward Hal Tharp led the Broncos with 16 points, while center Riley hit double figures with 14 markers.
