49 - Bolivar Slides By Tusky 52-50 (2-23-49)

DENNISON - First-Year Head Coach Warren Craigo 's Bolivar Cardinals (3-1) (9-14) (42-35) continued to play inspired basketball as they rallied time after time in their latest Consolation Division contest to overcome the Tuscarawas Broncos (0-2) (8-12) (32-33) as they notched their 3rd tournament victory in 4 starts.  Senior forward Dallas Seward was again a Cardinal standout, but the Bolivar ace had capable support from Junior guard Ed Grossenbacher, guard Chuck Tawney, Sophomore forward Bill Willard, Junior center Carl McFeeders and a substitute, Sophomore forward Bob Burkhart.

It was Burkhart, sent into the battle when Seward was benched on personal fouls with one minute remaining and the Cards trailing 50-49, who banged in a field goal that gave the Red Birds a 51-50 lead.  The end of the game came when McFeeders netted a free throw for Bolivar.

The score had been tied at least 4 times in that last canto as the 2 teams surged back and forth.  Tuscarawas held margins of 15-8 at the end of the 1st quarter and 35-33 at the close of the 3rd stanza.

Grossenbacher, playing with 2 fingers bandaged as the result of an accident Wednesday morning at school, led the Cardinal scorers with 11 points.  Senior forward Hal Tharp, Bronco ace, also netted 11 points for the losers.
