DENNISON - With little more than one minute remaining in their battle with the Port Washington Purple Riders (1-1) (7-10) (14-37), the Dundee Bulldogs (0-2) (8-14) (21-40) held a 39-31 lead. A basket by Junior forward Hal Weber trimmed this to 39-33 and 2 fast field goals by Senior guard Dick Corbett made it 39-37. With 5 seconds left, the Purple Riders set up a screen in mid-court with Corbett in the firing post. Corbett took the ball on a pass from a teammate after Dundee had lost possession while putting the ball into play after the Port Washingotn score. The Porters ace launched from center court and it slid through the nets, knotting the count as the game ended 39-39.
In a 3-minute overtime, Corbett hanged another long set shot through the nets to make it 41-39. Glen Fisher of Dundee missed a chance to tie the score again when he failed to hit either of 2 free throw shots. A Port Washington free throw ended the game.
The 1st quarter ended with a 2-point (11-9) Dundee lead. The Bulldogs increased that lead by 3 points (22-19) by the time intermisson came around. Third-Year Head Coach Bray Toot kicked his offense and defense units into gear in the 3rd canto as Port Washington scored 12 points and limited Dundee to just 6 markers to take the lead...Port 37-33.
