49 - Right Down The Line

BOLIVAR'S CARDINALS lost a ball game last night, but they won a lot of prestige in the process.  When a school principal and one of his instructors take over for a coach and mold, overnight, a spark such as the Red Birds had last night you find yourself an ardent supporter of that team; although, you know the odds are against it.  To Principal P.O. Cochran and his aid, Robert Lengacher, we extend our congratulations.  That was a fine show last night.  No apologies are necessary for that defeat.

ON THE BASIS of last night's performance, Midvale, if the Blue Devls get by the Strasburg Tigers tonight, will not have too much trouble with the Gnadenhutten Indians.  In the lower bracket; however, a titanic struggle is brewing as the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates have only the Tuscarawas Broncos to conquer before securing a berth in the semi-finals next Wednesday against the Mineral City Tigers.  In the only meeting of the 2 teams this year at Mineral City, the Tigers handed the Bucs a 61-43 setback.  Both teams have now shown they can operate on the Dennison floor and the next meeting should be one of the best of the tournament.

TOURNAMENT SHORT SHOTS:  The fans did not come in droves again last night; allthough, 558 was a little above the 500 which attended the 2nd sessen last year at Memorial Hall...Vally Dirodis and Nick Frascella, had a few words of praise to say for former Strasburg star, Clarence Yackey, who is working out this year with the Bowling Green Freshmaen and have only praise for the big boy's ability...Dirodis and Frascella recalled the work of Dundee's Paul Kate in last year's tournament and called it some of the best they saw all year.
