49 - Right Down The Line

BOLIVAR'S CARDINALS enter the 2nd week of the county tournament as a "team of destiny."  The Red Birds, ended their regular season far down in the conference standings and rated little, if any chance, of holding on until the 2nd week of the tournament.  Yet, today, the Cardinals are still there, winging toward the Consolation Division finals and a berth in the Sectional Tournament.  After watching them eliminate the Strasburg Tigers from the meet Saturday night, we will be the last to say the Cards cannot make it.  Senior Dallas Seward, 5-10 Cardinal forward, gets our vote as the most outstanding performer of the tourney so far.  Seward's work in his 3 games has been nothing but brilliant, a major factor in the Bolivar surge.

VERLE BUCHLER, STONE CREEK GOLDEN PANTHER CENTER, is leading tournament scorers with 49 points for 3 games.  Glen Zimmerman of the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates tops the point-makers for a single game, however.  His 28 points againsst the Tuscarawas Broncos Saturday night is high for the meet.

NOTE:  MIDVALE ACE, FORD, MAY BE SIDE-LINED

The Midvale Blue Devils, County League Champions and Class B tournament favorites, received a severe blow today when it was learned that All-Ohio Senior Forward Jack Ford, may be out of Wednesday's semi-final game with the Gnadenhutten Indians with an infected knee.  Ford injured the knee on Friday night in the Blue Devil victory over the Strasburg Tigers when the Saturday infection developed.

Second-Year Head Coach Bill French said today that Ford had been given penicillin injections by a physician, but it was uncertain whether the Blue Devil ace would be able to play on Wednesday.
