DOVER - Flashing a withering attack as it felt out the tournament floor with a better than point minute scoring spree, the Midvale Blue Devils machine (1-0) (27-14), one of the leading favorites in the joust, mowed down the Port Washington Purple Riders (0-1) (4-20) 60-23 in the opening game of the session. The Blue Devils, led by forward Frank Morrison and center Adrian Ford, were never in danger throughout the contest and scored almost at will with 7th-year Head Coach M.R. Helwick using every man on his squad.
Midvale served notice of the runaway in the 1st quarter by sweeping to a 16-3 lead. The Blue Devils built up a 26-9 led in the 2nd quarter by burying another 10 points, while the Purple Riders managed 6 points. After the intermisson, Midvale continued to punish Port Washington dropping in a whopping 18 points in the 3rd quarter, while the Purple Riders hit 8 points giving the Blue Devils a 44-17 lop-sided 27 point lead at the end of the 3rd stanza. With Coach Helwick's substitutions in the 4th and final quarter, Midvale still racked up 16 points in the final period, while Port was working on an additional 6 points, closing out the scoring 60-23 sending the Purple Riders to the Consolation Division.
Morrison and Ford led the Midvale scoring with 15 and 13 points, respectively. Morrison also picked up game honors as Port failed to found a player in double figures. Purple Rider Senior center Henry Linard had 8 markers to lead his team.
