DOVER - Unable to keep up with smooth-passing, sharp-shooting Gnadenhutten Indians (1-0) (21-21), the Stone Creek Golden Panthers (0-1) (5-14) went down to a 38-24 defeat in their 1st appearance in the tournament. The game was marked by the fact that only 12 personals were called against both teams throughout the contest as the players gave an exhibition of clean and snappy play.
1st-year Head Coach of the Golden Panthers' cagers tossed in the opening 2 points on free throws, but that was the last the Panthers saw of the lead. Gnaden was in front by a score of 12-8 at the end of the 1st quarter. In the 2nd period, Stone Creek outscored the Indians 6 to 5, but still found themselves behind by halftime 17-14. The tomahawks came out in the 3rd period as Gnaden scored 13 points to the Panthers 6 points and the scoreboard reading 30-20. The Indians headed by 3rd-year Head Coach Ed Sears, continued to hunt-down the cats in the final stanza and bagged their 1st game of the tourney.
Sophomore center John Metzger led all scorers for game honors hitting 7 field goals and a free throw for 15 points for Gnaden. No other individual hit double figures. Stone Creek was led by forward Dale Wherley who swished the nets for 8 markers.
