40 - Bolivar Ices Game With 3 Minutes To Go Against Pesky Port 32-28 (2-23-40)









DOVER - The Bolivar Cardinals (2-1) (25-19) pulled out a close 32-28 victory over the Port Washington Purple Riders (1-2) (5-21)in another Consolation contest that ended Port's further participation in the 18th Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament.

In the very 1st quarter of the game, the 2 teams ended the period at 4-4.  In the 2nd quarter the Cardinals out scored the Purple Riders by 4 points with the score at the half 10-6.  Port Washington began to roll out the guns in the 3rd quarter by firing in 14 points and holding Bolivar to but 8 markers while the scoreboard read 20-18...Purple Riders.  When the final quarter arrived Bolivar began reversing and matching the 3rd quarter scoring with the Cardinals hitting the nets for 14 points, while their defense held back the Purple Riders to 8 markers and icing the game with just a few minutes to go.

Game honors went to Bolivar's forward Ken Oberlin with 10 points and Port Washington's Senior center Henry Linard matching Oberlin's output of 10 markers.  Cardinal Center Bud Ross followed up Ross's scoring spree with 9 additional points.  Linard's teammate Junior guard Bob Woodard added 7 points for Port Washington.
