36 - Stone Creek Gets Revenge Over Port 31-17 (2-22-36)









DOVER - The Stone Creek Panthers (1-1) (2-5) extracted revenge over the Port Washington Purple Riders (0-2) (4-13) in the 1st Consolation Tournament game on Saturday afternoon with a 14 point victory 31-17.  It was the Purple Riders who beat the Panthers in their last League game putting Stone Creek in the cellar with a winless season.  For Port, it was their only League win of the season.  These 2 teams were sent to the Consolation Tournament with a Stone Creek loss to the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates 47-17 and a Port Washington loss to the Dundee Bulldogs 24-21.

The Panthers fast-breaked to a 9-2 lead in the 1st quarter of play and continued their pace 18-5 when the whistle sounded at the end of the 2nd quarter.  In the 2nd half of play the Purple Riders scored 6 points and their defense held Stone Creek to only 2 markers ending the 3rd quarter at 20-11.  In the 4th quarter the Panthers picked up another 11 points to secured the win.

Forward Walter Blenninger tied his teammate forward Frank Ellwood for game honors by scoring 12 points apiece.  Blenninger had 3 field goals and 6 free throws, while Ellwood had 4 field goals and 4 free throws for Stone Creek.  For Port Washington, Senior forward George Day led his team with 7 points (3 field goals and a free throw).
