36 - Dundee Escapes Port Upset Bid 24-21 (2-21-36)

DOVER - The Dundee Bulldogs (1-0) (11-14), who have managed to become inspired for all big-name competition, had the tables turned on them last night when the Port Washington Purple Riders (0-1) (4-12), which could win no more than one League game during the entire season, pushed the Bulldogs right up to the final gun.  The Purple Riders answered the challenge by uncorking its best game of the season to crowd Dundee from the opening whistle to the close before dropping a 24-21 decision.

Trailing 18-9 when the final period opened, the Purple Riders staged their sensational rally to tie the score at 18-all with 3 and a half minutes to play.  They were stopped there; however, when Head Coach Bob Lanzer's Bulldogs pushed its total to 24 and Port Washington gathered the remainder of its points in the games final seconds.

Dick Kobel, Dundee center, with a one-handed hook shot from the free throw lane,  set the gymnasium agog and paved the way for class exhibition which was to follow.  Kobel tallied 18 points (8 field goals and 2 free throws).  Port Washington's Senior center Henry "Gene" Decker was high for his team with 11 points (4 field goals and 3 free throws).
