57 - Strasburg Sinks Baltic 77-52 (2-13-57)
Junior George Gessner (33) of the Strasburg Tigers seems to realize it's hopeless to try and shag the ball which 6-0 Sophomore Sam Jacobs (9) of the Baltic Eagles is rebounding. The 5-4 Tiger player couldn't cope with the superior height. Junior 6-0 Chuck Burris (66) and Nick Haswell (55) both of the Bengals seem to be watching the scene as is 5-5 Ron Huprich of the Flyers with his back to the camera and 6-2 Senior Jerry Froman (12) of Strasburg. Midway in the game between the Strasburg Tigers and Baltic Eagles last night there wasn't a single empty seat left in Dover's Memorial Hall as fans poured into the tournament site to get a good look at 2 of the county League powers. Even the Tiger Cheerleaders were required to stand during the game.

DOVER - A worried look on the face of Assistant Coach Dale McDonald, who substituted for the regular Strasburg mentor Head Coach Chuck Caniford, was soon dispelled early in the 1st quarter as the Strasburg Tigers (1-0) (18-1) (94-25) got off to a 12-0 lead, on their road to 100 Tuscarawas tournament victories, before the Baltic Eagles (0-1) (13-8) (35-52) could find the range to score. Caniford, who was called out of town due to the traffic death of his wife's sister and husband, surely would have been proud of his Bengals last night, who are ranked 3rd in the Associated Press's Class A High School Poll, as they were never in trouble and displayed Championship style in racking up their 18th win as against only a single setback.
The Eagles are young, but the game Flyers might have caused the winners plenty of trouble had they been hitting in that 1st quarter of play which ended 20-4 in favor of Strasburg. The cagers of Head Coach Jack Belliville could find the mark only once in 15 attempts for a "freezing" 6 percent in the initial period, while the winners potted 8 of 14 attempts in posting the lead. Holding wide margins of 40-16 and 59-36 after the next 2 quarters, the Strasburg Tigers had control of the situation throughout the contest.
With all 5 starters in double figures and a clicking fast break, the Tigers thus gained themselves a semi-finals berth for next Thursday, February 21st, when they meet the winner of tonight's Midvale Blue Devils-Stone Creek Golden Panthers winner of tonight's Midvale-Stone Creek fracas. Junior Woody Norris, who potted 14 points in the 2nd half, led the winners with 20, while 6-2 Senior Jerry Froman, rebounding very well, followed with 15. Sophomore Nick Haswell, hitting 5 field goals from out front, had 14, Junior 6-0 Chuck Burris 13 and playmaker Junior George Gessner 11. Junior 6-2 Larry Ladrach topped the cagers of Coach Bellville with 16 points, while 5-5 Glen Reidenbach, the loser's only Senior on the starting 5, had 12 and Freshman John Rice netted 10.
Unofficial statistics revealed that the Bengals made 32 of 70 attempts from the field for 32 percent, including a hot 57 percent 1st period and 51 percent clip in the 2nd frame. On the other hand, Baltic connected for only 27 percent, making 21 of 73 action flings.
