32 - Sugarcreek-Shanesville Slides By Delroy 42-28 (3-5-32)
DOVER - Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (4-1) trained its big guns on the Delroy Warriors in the final period of their game this morning and emerged from the contest on the winning end of a 42-28 score. The Warriors battled stubbornly through the 1st 3 periods, but dropped off in the final when Potts, their pivot man, was taken from the game on fouls. The Pirates led 11-8 at the 1st period, 19-18 at the half and 30-26 at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Forward Ken Ricker scored high for the winners with 8 action shots and 3 fouls for a total of 19 points. Junior forward Boyd Burkey, generally the high scorer for his team, was unable to find the hoop until late in the game. He hit with 5 field goals and 2 foul tosses for 12 points. Four of his field buckets were scored in the last half. Potts of Delroy was their top scorer with 4 field goals and 1 free throw.
