32 - Bolivar Upsets Midvale 40-30 (2-25-32)
DOVER - The Midvale Blue Devils (0-1) (8-4), hopeful of a 2nd successive tournament championship, went glimmering in the 2nd game last night when an inspired Bolivar Cardinals (1-0) (11-7), rangy, fast and sharp-shooters all, upset the Blue Devils to the tune of 40-30. The Cardinals led in every period, holding an 8-6 margin at the 1st quarter, 14-10 at the half and 30-18 at the end of the 3rd frame. That 3rd quarter spurt accounted for their 10-point victory. The victors took an 18-10 lead before the 3rd chukker was well started and they kept out in front despite the scoring activities of guard R. Stevenson and forward White, fleet Blue Devils. The entire Bolivar team played a superb brand of ball, but the work of guard Detrich, forward Wolf and Kreis, diminutive forward, was especially noticeable. Banishment of guard Walker, Midvale Captain, in the 3rd quarter hurt the Midvale team. Senior Elmer Kreis led Bolivar with 12 points, 3 field goals and 6 foul tosses, while Midvale was led in scoring by White who tossed in 6 field goals for 12 points.
