46 - Strasburg's Adrian "Fizz" Miller Ends Brilliant Cage Career
STRASBURG - One of Strasburg's best athletes wrote finis to a brilliant basketball career when Adrian "Fizz" Miller led his Ohio University Bobcats to a 58-56 upset win over a heavily favored Akron University team a week ago. Miller pumped 22 points through the hoop to cinch his team's claim as one of the better teams in Ohio this year. Fizz scored a total of 250 points in 20 games for Head Coach Trautwein's team. That figures out a neat 12.5 points per day. Miller was particularly impressive in his team's tougher games. For instance, he scored 18 points against Kentucky University's great club. He also scored a bucket in the closing seconds of the game to beat Miami 39-38.
Ohio University finished the season with a record of 15-5. This was Miller's 3rd season with the Bobcats. He was a teammate of Frank Baumholtz on Ohio University's national runner-up of 1941 and played with the 1942 club before he was inducted into the Army. Fizz is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Miller of Strasburg and a brother of Arthur "Dutch" Miller, Strasburg's star of the late twenties. Fizz played 4 years for Strasburg and was on the 1933 team which participated in the State Tournament.
Miller, who stands 6-2 and wears glasses, graduated from Ohio University in 1942. He completed his 4 year course in 3 years just before he was inducted in the Army. He served 3 years, 7 months in the Army Finance Section, one year of which was in the ETO. After his release from the
Army last fall he reentered Ohio University for a refresher course in accounting. Fizz was eligible to play basketball this year as he had a year of eligibility left when he graduated.
Miller is expected home from college this weekend and to root for the Strasburg Tigers in their bid for State Class B Honors. He doesn't intend to follow the coaching profession. Instead he has already accepted a position with the Internal Revenue Office in Cleveland. Last week Fizz was surprised with a "Fizz" Miller night by his fraternity and he was presented with a 50 Dollar Bond.
