46 - Strasburg Survives Bird Attack 39-33 (3-2-46)

Senior guard Joe Deibel scored 14 points while leading his team to a 39-33 triumph over the Berlin Blue Jays.  He now has 43 total points for a 7.2 point average per game in tournament play.

DOVER - The Strasburg Tigers (6-0) (25-0) were hot on Thursday night when the Tigers dropped Dennison's Railroaders 44-26, but they weren't hitting with much regularity Saturday night and Head Coach Wilber Yoder's Berlin Blue Jays (17-5) gave the Bengals plenty of trouble before the latter chalked up their 25th victory.

The Blue Jays small but fast team was hitting during the 1st quarter and piled up a 12-9 lead by sharp-shooting around Strasburg's zone, but the Tigers' height began to tell in the 2nd period and Strasburg went ahead 16-15 at halftime intermission.  The Tigers led throughout the 3rd stanza by small margins before finally pulling away 27-23 going into the 4th and final quarter and although Berlin rallied several times, they couldn't cut the margin.

Senior guard Joe Deibel of Strasburg was the outstanding Strasburg player gaining game honors.  He sank 6 action shots and 2 free tosses for 14 points to lead his team in every department.  Sophomore forward Tom Haswell went scoreless, leaving the game in the 3rd stanza on personals and Sophomore center Junior Yackey played only part of the game with Junior center Marvin Jeffers taking over and knocking off 6 points for the Tigers.  Senior forward John Garver picked up 8, Yackey 7 and Senior guard Fred Aul and Senior forward Ed Gasser 2 each.  Forward Elmo Miller's 11 points was high for Berlin.
