30 - Midvale Knocks-Off Strasburg 27-23 (3-1-30)

DOVER - The Midvale Blue Devils (2-0) (4-2) eliminated the Strasburg Tigers (1-1) (18-5) in the 1st afternoon game of the Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament by 4 points.  The Tigers' Junior John Heid #5 in scoring and the floor work of #7 Senior Fred Mears, one of the smoothest performers in the tournament, kept Strasburg in the running.  Senior Wilson Dreher #2, did not start the game, but made things hum when he did get into the fray in the 2nd half.  With his team behind, he broke for the basket beautifully 3 times in succession to bring the score on a more even basis.

Zucal, #6, and #11 West, the 2 giant Midvale scoring aces, were up in the air and shooting over the heads of the Tiger Defense.  Each chalked up 4 baskets and West also had a foul toss for 8 and 9 points, respectively.  If either of these 2 players could have been stopped, Strasburg might have won.  Dreher played a great defensive game, but didn't get into the game soon enough to make amends for what already had been done.  Fabiano, #10, was all over Mears keeping his scoring down, but the clever forward was the key man in the Tiger passing attack.  It was a great struggle for Strasburg in a tough battle and undoubtably one of the 3 best outfits in the tournament.
