DOVER - Bad luck at hitting the bucket and the steady plugging of the Dundee Bulldogs (1-0) (3-7) cost the Mineral City Tigers (0-1) (1-8) the 1st game of the tournament and elimination from further competition. It was the Bulldogs by 1. For a while, during those last tense minutes, it looked like Mineral City would stage a story-book finish and win out, but the Dundee defense was at their peak and those long shots forced on the Tigers, simply wouldn't go in. The game surprised the fans, who had it all figured out that Mineral City would win. Just another case of you can never tell what will happen in a tournament.
The game was tough and Referee Gross banished 4 players, 3 of them Dundee men on personal fouls. Sliffe, #5, classy little forward, #3 Burrell huge center, and #7 Rice retund guard, got the gate for Dundee before the 3rd quarter, making their victory all the more impressive. Williams, #11, was banished for the Tigers. Haager, #4, big guard, was leading scorer and looked impressive as its shooting player. He chalked up 10 points for the Bulldogs. Myers, #13, poured in 8 markers for the losers.
