DOVER - Although romping over the Port Washington Purple Riders (0-1) (0-8) (2-17), the Midvale Blue Devils (1-0) (8-0) (17-2) had a rough time getting started and didn't score its 1st goal until l3 minutes had elapsed.  But despite some erratic floor play, the Blue Devils, who had lost only 2 games over the season, forged to a 1st period lead of 19-8.

Then they began to exhibit their usual good style of basketball, hitting the nets for 24 points, while holding the out-manned Purple Riders to just 13 for a 43-21 halftime margin.  In an effort to keep the score from bulging, the 1st-line Diablos, who in regular season play had won 105-68 and 84-42 over the Riders, were replaced by the 2nd team.  It scored only 10 points as Port picked up 11 as the 3rd stanza ended 52-32.

In the final canto, Head Coach Pete Hilliard's Reserves caught fire and outscored the Riders 18 to 10 to waltz home.  First stringers Junior forward Dave Belknap and Senior center Russ Hobart along with Reserve Sophomore guard Vince DeNoi were the leading scorers for the Blue and Gold as each collected 12 points.  Sophomore guard John Landon had 11 points, while his teammate, Freshmen guard Bill Phillips, picked up 10 more for the Purple and White.
