56 - Baltic Goes Home After Loss To Bolivar 77-73 (2-17-56)

DOVER - The Baltic Eagles (0-2) (6-15) (35-51) became the 2nd team to bow out of further contention as the Bolivar Cardinals (1-1) (8-14) (49-48) came up with 32 field goals in 78 attempts for 41 percent to overshadow the 36 points garnered by the Eagles in 50 trips to the free throw line.  The Cardinals had trouble getting started and trailed 7-2 early in the contest before Junior Ken (Bobo) Haueter and Senior Don Mason began finding the range and hurried their teammates into an 18-13 lead.  The Flyers fought back; however, leading 22-18 at the 1st break.

Mason hit 4 field goals the 2nd period as Bolivar forged into a 37-35 halftime advantage before Baltic, who could manage only 18 action shots in 72 tries for a weak 25 percent, capitalized on their free throw shooting to regain the pole position, 57-54, going into the closing chukker.  The Orange and Black were limited to 3 fielders in 15 shots the final frame and with 3:45 remaining,, the Red Birds knotted the count at 62-62 before taking the lead 68-62 with 3 fast baskets.

The Eagles never again could catch the victory-hungry Cardinals who were sparked by Haueter and Mason with 24 and 20 points respectively.  Junior Glen Reidenbach led Baltic with 24 points.
