54 - Stone Creek Sinks Bolivar 64-54 (2-18-54)

The 1954 Bolivar Cardinals Basketball Team.  FRONT:  Jon Lash - Frank Ferren - Bob Cramer - Jack Renner - Roy Burfield and Dean Barr (Manager).  BACK:  Bob Mizer (Manager) - Jack Mason - Bob Numbers - Ken Haueter - Don Mason - Bob Sisson and Head Coach Andrew Steve.

Bob Cramer is the Bolivar Cardinals' outstanding center.  A veteran of last year's club.  Bob has been the top scorer and spark  of  the Cardinal Varsity thus far this season.  Cramer has been the mainstay of the Red Bird attack.


DOVER - The 1st contest of the 20th Annual Consolation Division Tournament began with the Stone Creek Golden Panthers (1-1) (12-10) (24-39) bouncing back from its opening round defeat to get the lead early and stay on top all the way.  Head Coach Ken Newlon came up with a 4-man zone and a special man on Senior forward Bob Cramer of the Bolivar Cardinals (0-2) (1-19) (47-45) to stop the Cardinal threat through most of the 1st half.  The Golden Panthers; meanwhile, grabbed a 15-9 edge at the end of the initial quarter and a 31-23 halftime advantage with Juniors, forward Bill Jones and guard Stan Phiillippi, leading the offense.

Cramer began connecting in the 2nd frame and teamed up with Junior forward Jack Renner in the 3rd to keep the Red Birds within range early in the quarter.  Jones and Freshman guard Mel McAfee kept the Panthers on top as they went into the final period with a 64-36 edge.  Jones began hitting a torrid streak in the final canto and he connected for 11 points and McAfee added 4 to counteract an outburst by "Cramer and Sophomore forward Bob (Red) Sisson.

Stone Creek lost the services of Sophomore guard Floyd Patrick and Phillippi on personals early in the 4th quarter and Coach Ken Lorenz finished out the contest with 4 Freshmen and a Junior.  Jones was the top scorer for the Golden Panthers with 29 flashy points, while McAfee added 8 and Phillippi 9.  Cramer's 24 topped Bolivar and Renner added 11
