35 - Bolivar Trails 1st Period Then Knocks Out Port 45-20 (2-22-35)









DOVER - Forward Ward Kreis and guard Kermit Lebold entered the high-scoring race with Bolivar's colors over their heads when they scored 26 points between them to pace the Bolivar Cardinals (1-0) (13-11) to a 45-20 victory over the Port Washington Purple Riders (0-1) (3-10) at the opening of the 13th Annual Tuscarawas County Class B Basketball Tournament here last night.

The Cardinals, one of the ceded teams, trailed throughout the 1st quarter, but held the Purple Riders scoreless in the 2nd stanza to take a 20-8 command at the half.  After the 1st few minutes of the 2nd half Bolivar was completely out of danger.  Port led 8-7 in the 1st, then Bolivar took over in the 2nd leading 20-8 and 34-15 at the end of the 3rd periods.

The Cardinals were led in scoring by Kreis with 14 points (7 field goals) and Lebold followed with 12 points (6 field goals).  Junior center Gene Decker of Port Washington led his team with 8 points (4 field goals), while Senior forward Russ Glazer, Junior guard Don Riggle and Junior guard George Day all had 4 points for the Purple Riders.
