27 - Strasburg Takes-Down Sugarcreek 35-24 (2-26-27)

DOVER - In the semi-final game Saturday afternoon, the Strasburg Tigers (3-0) (10-3) looked much better than their favored opponents, the Sugarcreek-Shanesville Pirates (1-1) (7-2).  Strasburg Senior forward Leland Huth was the main cog in the Strasburg scoring wheel that sent them into a winning score of 35 points.  Huth scored 6 field goals and 5 foul shots out of 8 attempts from the free throw line for 17 points.  He broke up numerous plays of the Sugarcreek combine and worked the ball into scoring position for his team.  Through his uncanny ability Huth won a place as forward on the Tuscarawas mythical Class B quintet chosen by a representative of the Daily Reporter.

Strasburg made victory out of the Sugarcreek-Shanesville game from the very beginning.  They took a 5-4 lead over their opponents in the 1st period, increased it to a lead of 17-12 at halftime and were leading 24-21 at the end of the 3rd quarter.  Sugarcreek-Shanesville never gave up hope of winning from Strasburg, though.  They tied the score at 17-17 and at 19-19.  Moomaw led in the scoring for Sugarcreek-Shanesville with 6 field  goals and 1 foul shot for 13 points.  Junior forward Harlan Sliffe, Junior center Howard Gerber, Junior guard Stan Miller and Senior center Bob Neff all contributed with 5, 3, 2, and 1 points, respectively.  Strong support for Strasburg's Huth, were Senior guard Walter (Warren) Mizer with 6 points and Senior guard Walter Neidenthal with 5 points.  Juniors forward Orval Deems and center Paul Sundheimer closed out the Tigers' scoring with 4 and 3 points.
